Rustic Greenhouse Dinner Party

Elegantly Undone... An elegant evening doesn't have to be a formal affair.

It’s time to bring the outdoors in. Take inspiration from a verdant English garden or greenhouse to create a relaxed, yet still enchanting gathering, with a focus fresh greenery, rustic accents and warm lighting. Here, a tin-roofed Dover lantern surrounded by fairy lights welcomes guests.

Go for greenery and unconventional pieces rather than traditional floral arrangements for this enchanting tablescape. This will create a more natural and relaxing environment with the fresh smells and beautiful textures you can create. For convenience, you can purchase many plants from nearby grocery stores and local farmers markets. Found objects, even twigs, make for amazing accents and help add texture and height. Place a small vase or two of flowers from your garden nearby. Herbs like cedar, lavender, mint, thyme, and pine are incredibly fragrant, simple and inexpensive.

Increase the lifespan of your arrangements by keeping them away from heating vents and sunny windows. Soak all of the greenery overnight in a bathtub or sink filled with water. Recut the ends. Slap the herbs on the back of your hand. This breaks the outer cell structure of the herb, releasing the aroma. Decorate just before the event.

Unexpected elements – like vintage-style LED string lights hung indoors, and a ladder sprouting vines and delicate mini arrangements – make for a memorable environment and get together.

Planning Your Menu

Purchase and gather dinner and drink items the night before so you have time the day of the party to prepare.

This is the perfect time to use any fresh produce and/or herbs you’ve been growing!

Pick seasonally-appropriate vegetables (like beets, corn, radishes and zucchini) and fruits (like apricots, berries, figs and melons)

Keep it simple. Prepare dishes that only require a handful of ingredients and very little time assembling. Slice melon and baguette and serve an olive tapenade. Keep your main course simple by grilling and serving with a hearty summer salad.

Aim for mixing cocktails in pitchers or punch bowls, rather than making each drink individually. Try PDT’s Cognac lemonade:

  • 1 750ml bottle of Pierre Ferrand Ambre
  • 3 (11.15 oz) cans of San Pellegrino Limonata
  • 2 large tea bags

Throw two bags of herbal or black tea into a large mason jar. Pour one full bottle (750 ml) of Pierre Ferrand Ambre cognac over the tea bags. Let it steep for 3-5 minutes so that the tea infuses the booze. Remove the tea bags and add 3 to 4 large ice chunks or 12 small cubes to the mix. Pour in 3 cans of San Pellegrino Limonata. Stir and sip to taste. Use a cocktail strainer to pour into a glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Now all that’s left is to make yourself a cocktail, cheers and enjoy!
