Lights.com—Solar Powered Yard Lights
Solar powered yard lights can give your yard a completely new personality once the sun has gone down for the day. Many people spend hours and hours working in their yards making them as beautiful as they possibly can by adding trees, flowers, shrubs and more. When nighttime comes, all of this hard work disappears into the darkness.
Obviously, you do not want to light your house up as if it is the middle of the afternoon because the neighbors might complain and then there is the expense. The right amount of lighting can bring out different aspects of your home and hard work in the yard. Using lights to accent a home is an opportunity to highlight things some might normally miss or create a certain look and feel for passers-by.
How Solar Powered Yard Lights Work
Solar powered yard lights receive their power from the sun during the day through small solar panels attached to the light's housing. The panel absorbs a small percentage of photons (solar energy) as other photons bounce off it or pass through it. The captured photons transfer into electricity through a special process.
The electricity feeds into rechargeable batteries inside the solar powered yard lights to provide power to the light when the sun goes down. A sensor detects when the lights should be on or off. The process starts all over the next morning. While the process may seem simple, it has taken decades of hard work to develop and implement in various products.
